From her home in Gascony, South West France, Sylvie Nobes produces exquisite hand-made jewellery.
Born in the South of England, Sylvie and her husband Dave swapped a hectic life of commuting to London for a rather more peaceful life in this beautiful part of France a few years ago. Sylvie's interest in dichroic jewellery quickly blossomed into a successful business, and now, from her studio, Sylvie sends her beautiful work all over the world.
Sylvie also sells her work at regional markets and craft fairs in and around the foothills of the Pyrénées.
The process
Each piece is individually designed and hand crafted in the studio, then fired at extremely high temperature in a special kiln. A characteristic feature of the jewellery is that due to the special nature of the glass, and also the individual design, no two pieces are ever alike. This ensures that each piece of jewellery is totally unique.
Commissions
If you want something special (such as wedding jewellery or something designed to match an outfit), Sylvie also creates jewellery to commission. Contact details are on the website.
Courses
If you would like to learn a new skill, or simply try your hand at creating a piece of jewellery yourself, you can also take advantage of special courses at the studio in the Gers.
Over two days - in wonderful surroundings - you will learn how to create and fire your own dichroic glass jewellery as well as a variety of techniques to enable you to produce your own designs. At the end of each day your jewellery will be placed in the kiln and fired overnight, ready for you to add jewellery findings to create your own pendants, earrings, bracelets and rings the next morning. Class sizes are limited to no more than 5 people so that personal tuition can be provided to suit your needs.
There are gites and hotels nearby, and arrangements can be made to take you to and from your accomodation for tuition. Why not take the opportunity to combine the course with a holiday!
